We at Apple Plus Tutoring are often asked about various aspects
of our programs by parents and potential students. Following
you will find insight into some of the more common
questions we have received.
|
Q.
"What are the tutors qualifications?"
|
|
All our tutors are
either Ontario certified teachers or individuals with extensive
backgrounds in Math, English and Science such as Masters or PHD
students. They are tested them in their area of competency and
assessed to ensure they have the aptitude to teach.
And of course, they are trained on our material and methodologies.
|
Q.
"What is the typical student / tutor ratio?"
|
|
Normally we work on a ratio of 1 student to 1 tutor. Although, we will can have tutors
work with groups of up to 3 students at a time with special arrangements
|
Q.
"What is your tutoring environment like?"
|
|
All students receive
individualized attention. They work
on their material at their own pace. Because of this, there is
no peer pressure and hence the students are not afraid to ask
questions. This also means that there are no discipline problems.
|
Q.
"Why should I consider
Apple Plus instead of a private tutor?"
|
|
The quality of tutoring
you get with a private tutor is directly related to that tutor.
Private tutors do not have access to the tools and resource we
have. This means they can′t accurately pin point the troubled
areas or give the student the extra material needed to study
for test and exams. Private tutors usually just coach the student
through their homework. The unfortunate reality of this is that
there is no guarantee the student is learning during this process.
The student also often then comes to rely on the coaching which
is not present in the classroom, during test or exams when it is most
needed.
|
Q.
"What are the cost of the programs?"
|
|
It varies depending on the needs of the student. We have a variety of programs and
payment options design to fit most budgets. Lessons costing $50 per session/hour. Full
details are available on the
program page.
|
Q.
"Can you accommodate gifted children or IB (International
Baccalaureate)"
|
|
Yes we can definitely
work with children in Gifted or IB programs. All Gifted or IB
programs are based on the Ontario Curriculum and so is all our
material. In Gifted or IB programs the curriculum is very similar,
just taught to a higher standard. Since we have found that most
of our material is already based on a slightly higher standard
than most regular classrooms we have no difficultly in ensuring
that the student can get the level of tutoring required to keep
up with their class.
|
Q.
"How about special needs children?"
|
|
We are happy to look
at each case as it presents itself but please be aware that
we are not setup to handle special needs children. We do however
encourage you to discuss the situation with us so we can understand the
specific needs of your child. If after that if you feel we can help out, we would
be more than happy to organize a program for your child and do a
few trial lessons to see how things work out.
